Severe Bronchospasm with Generalized Rigidity During Balanced Anethesia

Abstract
|
|
|
Recently balanced anesthesia has been popularized. The author have experienced a case of sudden severe bronchospasm with generalized spastic rigidity which can almost impossible to ventilate lung. During balanced anesthesia, hypercarbia, hypotension may occur, but consistent, severe bronchospasm with spastic rigidity occur rarely.
1. Withdrawal of general anesthesia.
2. 100% oxygen inhalation.
3. Succinylcholine 40 mg. IV stat.
4. Sodium pentothal 50 mg. IV stat.
5. Surgical operation interrupted.
6. Aminophylline 500 mg. in 5% D/W 1, 000 ml. IV infusion
7. Gradual ether inhalation.
8. Termination of operation.
